What are Cancer Fighting Foods?

Foods that heal cancer

Cancer Self-help: What are the top cancer fighting foods?

Good morning lovely you!

I am sipping a delicious cup of steaming tea in my hotel room this morning and missing my little Zuzu. I know she is missing our mornings together. I’ll be home soon.

As we work on changing our lives so we can heal, we need to learn about anti-inflammatory foods.

If you’ve read my blog for any amount of time, you know that an anti-inflammatory diet was one of the biggest factors in my beating stage 4 malignant melanoma. This after having been given only 6 months to live.

You will get up the healing mountain much faster when you become educated about anti-inflammatory foods. 2,000 years ago, Hippocrates, the father of medicine, said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” The guy knew THOUSANDS of years ago that food could heal us. Meanwhile, my oncologists told me to eat whatever I wanted, cream cakes, cookies, it didn’t matter what I put in my body.

Sadly, in the 30+ years since I beat cancer, the healthcare industry is still in the dark ages when it comes to nutrition and disease. It’s not your doctor’s fault. They have been indoctrinated into medicine, and medicine has become an industry controlled by some very sinister and greedy people whose goal it is to keep us all sick so we will continue to spend money on prescription drugs and unnecessary surgeries.

The point I am trying to make is, you MUST clean up your diet and begin to fill your body with nutritious, anti-inflammatory cancer fighting foods.

What is Inflammation?

Before I get to the list of cancer fighting foods, I wanted to just spend a little time talking about what inflammation is, and how its connected to cancer and other diseases.

You must first understand there are two types of inflammation: acute and chronic.

Acute inflammation is the good kind of inflammation. This is the body’s response to an illness such as the flu virus or an injury such as a cut on your finger. When there has been a sudden (acute meaning ‘of abrupt onset’) injury or illness, the body sends a signal to our immune system, which then declares war on the intruding virus or bacteria.

This is why your finger, which you sliced trying to cut that darn poppy seed bagel, suddenly gets red and swollen. That is inflammation – it is an “all hands on deck” reaction to a wound or illness. It’s what helps your body protect against infection and heal the wound.

But chronic inflammation is different. Chronic inflammation isn’t the result of bronchitis or spraining your ankle; it’s the result of poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, drinking too much and daily stress. In other words, chronic inflammation, for most of us, is the result of MODERN DAY LIFE.

When chronic and systemic inflammation takes hold in the body, the result is disease. Everything from arthritis to diabetes, heart disease and yes, cancer, can be directly linked to chronic inflammation.

Eat These Cancer Fighting Foods

Your very first step to beating cancer must be to get rid of inflammation, and your first step to doing that is to eat an anti-inflammatory diet with these cancer fighting foods:

  • dark leafy greens, including kale and spinach
  • blueberries, blackberries, and cherries
  • dark red grapes
  • nutrition-dense vegetables, such as broccoli and cauliflower
  • beans and lentils
  • green tea, ginger tea, turmeric tea
  • red wine (in moderation)
  • avocados
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • walnuts, pistachios, pine nuts, and almonds
  • cold water fish, including salmon and sardines (omega-3 is incredibly important in fighting inflammation. If you don’t like the taste of fish, get a quality fish oil supplement.)
  • turmeric and cinnamon
  • dark chocolate

Foods to Avoid Like the Plague

To clean up your diet, make sure you completely avoid the following:

  • processed meats (cold cuts, beef jerky, salami, etc.)
  • sugary drinks (including fruit juices)
  • trans fats, found in fried foods and snack items
  • white bread
  • white pasta
  • gluten
  • ALL VEGETABLE OILS!!! (canola, soy, corn, etc.)
  • processed snack foods, such as chips and crackers
  • desserts, such as cookies, candy, and ice cream
  • excess alcohol

I want to point out that cancer grows on sugar, so beyond an anti-inflammatory diet, do your best to reduce unnecessary carbs. For instance, even whole wheat bread or whole-grain cereal right now is not your best option. Stick with fish, a lot of veggies, and a little bit of fruit.

I also suggest fermenting your veggies, as the probiotics will help your gut which will, in turn, help your immune system fight the cancer. 80% of your immune system is located in your GUT!!! If your gut isn’t healthy – you aren’t healthy – PERIOD.

If your doctor has told you that your diet doesn’t matter and that foods won’t help you become healthy again, fire your doctor. At the very least, do NOT listen to them in regards to nutrition.

I have been where you are. I was given 6 months to live 30 years ago and I can tell you, eating an anti-inflammatory diet made of cancer fighting foods was the most important thing I did to get well and live my wonderful life.

Sending you love, light and antioxidants…
